We have an extra special COVID engagement session story today!
For engagement sessions, couples usually have many choices to make their session their own. The season, day, location, outfits…these decisions help support the vision they have for themselves as a couple and for their big day. For this engagement session, Sofia and Jérémie couldn’t pick where, when, or how. They could only make one choice: to have an engagement session.
Sofia and Jérémie are a particularly special couple: Sofia is our sister. She is gentle, kind, and gives the softest hugs. We got to shoot their proposal, their engagement, and hopefully their wedding!
Both our families have been going to the same camp for years, but didn’t know each other. Around 2016, all the kids that had grown up going to this camp started working there, including Sofia, Jérémie, and one of our cousins, Zach (whose wedding we photographed last summer!). Jérémie and Zach became fast friends and started conspiring to get their parents together. Zach’s father (our uncle) and Jérémie’s mom had both died within weeks of each other a few summers earlier. Their conniving paid off and their parents married.
Fast forward a couple years: Sofia moved in with our cousins as she was going to school in the same city. Almost immediately, Sofia and Jérémie were at odds. An example: Sofia likes baking and singing while Jérémie likes working on a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree at the same time while holding two part-time jobs. But time is magical: Jérémie began appreciating Sofia’s gentleness love for others, and Sofia started admiring Jérémie’s hard work and steady disposition. They began hanging out together in the living room, watching movies and talking for hours. On humour alone they fit like a puzzle: Jérémie is clever with a dash of goofy, and Sofia laughs until she cries. They started dating in December of 2018 and were engaged Christmas Eve 2019.
We had so many plans for their engagement session: we were going to go a castle or do the session in old Montreal. Then everything stopped. COVID-19 came to Canada. We were stuck. Because their June wedding plans were up in the air, we didn’t know if we’d get a chance to do an engagement session. Montreal was out of the question. Photography is not considered essential, so we couldn’t do the session in public. Thankfully, before things got too serious, Sofia and Jérémie moved in with our family for the duration of the quarantine. But Samantha couldn’t join us. So instead of a sunrise old Montreal session in late April… the session had to be now, it had to be on our property, Samantha couldn’t join us, and they had to wear something they brought in their suitcases.
Not the typical conditions. But we were blessed. We have 15 acres of land so we had space to work with. Sofia and Jérémie had brought the outfits they were considering for the session without even telling us. Plus, we had beautiful weather and a beautiful couple.
Sofia and Jérémie, you guys made this shoot so magical. Though our plans fell through, you guys didn’t skip a beat. You laughed, smiled, and joked so well no one would guess it was a Plan B COVID engagement session. You are such an amazing reminder of how couples should face difficulties: together and with love. Being able to photograph your engagement was so meaningful to us and we look forwards to revisiting these photos in the many years to come. We love you both!

Welcome to the blog!
This is where we share recent weddings & sessions, as well as informative articles, wedding planning tips, and a little bit about my life!
When I'm not shooting beautiful people in beautiful places, you're most likely to find me reading, taking walks along the beach, or trying out new restaurants with my husband!
About
What beautiful and romantic photos reflecting, in the spacious fields, the tenderness and love Sofia and Jérémie are sharing together. Great souvenirs in their history’s couple book.
Je suis tellement heureuse de contempler la tendresse de Sofia et de Jérémie sur ces photos, si romantiques, et pleines de vascitude, d’immensité, de Souffle… Je respire l’odeur des champs de blé.
Tendrement,
Tante Martine, Montréal
