Engagements

This Kortright Centre engagement started with us really REALLY liking Becky and Joseph before we even meet them. Our first interaction, outside of email and messaging, was on our way to their client meeting. It was pouring. Dark, mean clouds and thick, round droplets that splashed high and wide when they hit the asphalt. We were looking forwards to sharing hot cups of coffee and tea with Becky and Joseph. But then Sam’s phone rang. We answered it.

“Hi! It’s Becky!”

We immediately liked her. We could hear the smile in her voice.

She asked for a rain check on the client meeting; the wind and rain were growing aggressive.

We said of course, exchanged a few pleasantries and finished the call.

I turned to Samantha and said, “I love her already.” She was sweet, spoke kindly, and was genuinely apologetic about the change in plans. Our excitement to meet them doubled immediately.

Fast forward to Becky and Joseph’s engagement session. From the moment they waved at us from down the parking lot, we knew we were in for an incredible afternoon. Becky and Joseph are personable and warm. So incredibly authentic and 100% themselves, even with almost perfect strangers! Ten minutes into the session and we felt like we had known them forever. Joseph makes Becky laugh on a dime (she may have one of the most joyful and contagious laugh I’ve heard) and from the way he looks at her, it’s obvious he’s deeply in love.

Becky and Joseph are the kind of couple that already seem like a life-long team. What really stood out to us was the way they interacted with each other. Becky would be the one to gather their things and pack it up between locations, but Joseph wouldn’t let her carry any of the bags. They’d always be checking in with one another to make sure they were alright, and weren’t too cold. Joseph would make Becky laugh, and Becky would make sure Joseph was okay carrying all their things. And they were comfortable in these roles: It was like witnessing a small ecosystem, made up of intricate knowledge of each other.

Becky and Joseph, the afternoon we spent together at your Kortright Centre engagement felt so much more like we were just hanging out with friends than photographing a session. We love the way you care for and rely on one another, even in the small daily things (that is what life is made up of!) We can’t wait to hang out again at your wedding next year!
