Weddings

Jan and Nellie take care of things. That’s what they do. They take care of their greenhouses, their beautiful house, their four children, and their cars. That’s why their greenhouses support their farming business, their home is warm and inviting, their children are kind and upstanding, and their car still runs after almost thirty years.

The Buick Riviera. You know, the maroon one that Jan and Nellie drove on their wedding day. 28 years ago. Jan now opened the door to the passenger seat for her. His daughter. His only daughter. She slid into the passenger seat, lifting her white dress to make it easier to sit. He closed the door and walked to the other side.

28 years to the day.

When we got into our own car at the end of the wedding day, sitting quietly for a moment, we both had the same impression. This was a day marked by inheritance, legacy. So much of Janelle and Thomas’s LIUNA Station wedding was modelled on relationships that had come before. Janelle and Thomas rode in the same car that her parents had driven on their own wedding. The wedding date—May 18—was her parents’ anniversary. During the reception, the MCs from Janelle’s parents’ wedding stood up to toast the couple. And, as symbols of the familial love that came before, Janelle wore around her neck a necklace her parents gifted her, and on her ears, earrings given to her by her brothers.

Janelle and Thomas, your wedding day was a such joy to document! It was so sweet to see how you, as a couple, embrace the wisdom and influence of generations that have come before. You reminded us that none of us are meant to do life alone, and we’re excited to see you continue to bless and serve those around you through your marriage!
