This Toronto Botanical Gardens wedding reception followed a wedding ceremony at Tyndale, ending a beautiful day with lots of heartfelt emotions.

“It’s a blessing to get to know your daughter better through the other people who know her.”

Stacie’s dad stood at the podium, his wife at his shoulder. He paused, trying to gather his thoughts, trying to gather his emotions. We could hear the love for his daughter in his voice. He didn’t look down at his paper because didn’t have a paper. He didn’t need to write down what he wanted to say. The words were right there whenever he looked at his girl, the bride.

We took a moment to look around the room. No one moved. Not a squeak from a readjusted chair. Not a single scrape of utensil against plate. I could hear my heart in my chest. This was one of THOSE moments.

When he said those words at the reception, we couldn’t help but connect to them. As photographers, we have a limited time to get to know our couples, but, like Stacie’s dad said, we get to know our couples through their family and friends. Talking to our couples’ parents, bridal party, and relatives is always such a joy, not only because they are some of the loveliest people, but also because it gives us a deeper insight and a greater appreciation into our couples. We love them more for it!

Stacie and Alex, it was such a joy to shoot your wedding and to get to know you better through your friends and family. Taking pictures and interacting with them revealed a side of you that we hadn’t known before and we feel honoured that we got to witness that. Thank you!
