Engagements

To get to this Yorkville engagement session, we have to start 8 years ago. Carrie and Steven met at a church group: Steven was the guy all the girls liked. Friendly, funny, and kind, with just enough spunk to do a leprechaun jump while still maintaining decorum. A perfect balance, really. Carrie is like iced tea: sweet and refreshing. She noticed Steven all those years ago, but didn’t want to get involved. She’s not the kind of girl to compete for a guy’s attention. For a few years, they ran in the same circles and their paths crossed, but they didn’t really get a chance to know each other. Then they both attended a BBQ, where they didn’t know anyone else. They sat side by side and talked nearly the entire time.

It’s one of those long-time, easy-marinating types of love stories (8 years is long!). It’s a quiet kind of romance that feels like home.

But it’s not just the way they met. It’s also how they continue to live. Their love is greater than infatuation…their lives are a mission to serve others. They both work in their churches–Carrie in admin, and Steven as worship director–and even their side work is all about giving back to their communities. Steven is a music teacher and Carrie is the co-founder of Sparrow and Co., a garden and cafe that uses its profits to meet needs in the local community. (Check it out here!)

Their love oozes through their photos, in the gentle way they look at each other and in the funny little moments they are so comfortable leaning into. Even in the midst of the busy downtown crowds, these two look like they belong in one of those sweeping romantic epics.

Carrie and Steven, you two couldn’t be kinder, sweeter souls. We are so excited for your wedding (in only a few weeks!). You guys are beautiful, inside and out, and we can’t wait to get you in front of our cameras again. Here are some of our favourite photos from your engagement session. We hope you love them as much as we do. Which might be hard, because we love them a lot!
