Peggy and Ross had their engagement session at a bucket-list location of mine: Casa Loma!

Casa Loma is one of those special places that has both variety and wonderful continuity in all its photo locations! From a back garden and austere entryway, to an indoor conservatory and library, the castle is reminiscent of Clue! (But minus a murder and plus a whole lot of romance!) Inspired by Kate and William’s engagement, finding a beautiful location with an elegant and regal vibe was important to Peggy and Ross. As a fun bonus, Casa Loma was hosting the Princess Diana Exhibition! With a 1957 Rolls Royce welcoming guests at the entrance, Casa Loma was the location to celebrate a timeless engagement!

A deepening affection grew between Peggy and Ross…

Peggy and Ross met near the beginning of the pandemic, and many of their initial dates consisted of walks outdoors. Since then, they have been able to express their more classic taste. With dates to the zoo, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Peggy and Ross are a timeless couple! A deepening affection grew between them until health scares made them realize how deep their love for each other ran. On Christmas Day 2021, Ross proposed to Peggy, and Peggy said yes.

Peggy and Ross, thank you for trusting me with your engagement session photos! I loved walking around, learning about our shared love of chicken nuggets, navigating around tourists for the perfect shot, and getting to know you both better. I can’t wait to capture more images of the special moments in your relationship on your wedding day! Until then, I hope your engagement photos bring a lot of joy to you both (as they have for me)!

P.S. Casa Loma has some incredible sights of Toronto from its many towers! But even on the ground, there are some pretty special views! Try to find one below!

Kristine and Will’s Guelph Arboretum engagement session was the perfect way to welcome spring! With golden light, cherry blossoms, and conversations about our mutual love of food, cats, and romantic comedies, our evening together was full of laughter and–of course–gorgeous photos!

When I first met Kristine and Will, we hit it off right away. I learned that, like me, they enjoy staying at home, eating snacks, and watching shows. During their engagement session, we walked around the Arboretum getting to know each other and swapping stories. Referring to themselves as an old married couple, Kristine and Will joked with each other our entire time together. They met in 10th grade, and their similar sense of humour initially drew them to each other. When Will was studying in Guelph and Kristine in Toronto, their relationship deepened and they referred to that long-distance season as the “good ol’ msn days”.

Will timed his proposal to match Chandler’s

Will proposed on Valentine’s day. By planning a relaxed night with comfort foods and a Friends marathon, he ensured Kristine didn’t suspect anything. Knowing that Kristine liked Monica and Chandler as a couple, Will timed his proposal to match Chandler’s. In his own words, “when the proposal scene was about to start, I excused myself to the washroom where I had my suit and tie prepared, along with the engagement ring. When I came out, Chandler was starting to get down on one knee, and I paused it right there, and I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.” To state the obvious, Kristine said yes!

Kristine and Will, I absolutely can’t wait for your wedding day. Thank you for trusting me with capturing your relationship! Your engagement session was so much fun and I know we’ll have a blast again in August. I hope I can meet your cats, get in on some new jokes, and blow you away with more gorgeous photos of the two of you together.

Lovisa and Jack had a gorgeous morning engagement session at R.C. Harris and with Canadian weather, it definitely qualified as an adventure! This sweet couple was willing to brave the sharp lake-side wind in order to get this location all to themselves, and it was so worth it! Add in an adorable puppy and the creamiest sunrise and we’ve got ourselves a very special session!

These two love all the small daily moments, where most of life actually happens

Lovisa and Jack met in the gym at McMaster University, where they were both training in Olympic weightlifting. Through many 2-4 hour training sessions, they really got to know each other. Lovisa was initially drawn to Jack’s discipline, resilience, wisdom, and especially his patience! Jack waited about four years for Lovisa to figure out that he was the one!

These two love all the the small daily moments, which is where most of life actually happens! When they first started going out, Lovisa and Jack hardly went on official dates because they just loved doing everyday tasks together. They love to camp, hike, walk their dog Missy (take a peek at some of her adorable antics below!), and enjoy some of Jack’s own coffee that he roasts, grounds, and brews himself. Lovisa even remembers the moment she “knew”: that time Jack insistently worked to fix her white-out tape.

Lovisa and Jack, congratulations on your engagement and thank you for inviting me to be a part of your story! Getting to learn about you guys individually and as a couple has been so fun! I’ve been so encouraged to to see all the ways you guys love each other in so many small every-day ways!

Love this session? Check out some of our past engagements at R.C. Harris!

Today’s wedding at the The Symes has images from both 2020 and 2021! Mena and Matt’s wedding celebrations were divided across two days; they opted to split their ceremony and reception, and I’m so glad they did! One silver lining of having a split wedding has been the ability to reconnect with our couples! For Mena and Matt, on top of their ceremony and reception, we were also able to document their engagement earlier in 2020!

Time set aside to revel in the joy of their commitment

Mena and Matt had a small church ceremony that was sweet, family-oriented, and the focal point of this next step of their relationship. With a sweet first look beforehand in front of their families, Mena and Matt were intentional about enjoying their day despite the restrictions. I also loved getting to see and capture the celebration at their reception a year later, a time set aside to revel in the joy of their commitment to each other, and to share their happiness with their community.

Sandeep from Lumos Events was at the helm of both days, ensuring they ran smoothly and enjoyably. The celebrations were filled with warmth and some of the most amazing food ever! These two families know how to celebrate well, but what was probably my absolute favourite detail to photograph was the cake! The bride’s own sister made the most beautiful cake for the day of their ceremony, complete with macarons, figs, and berries. Mena was also able to wear her dress twice (how many brides would love the chance to wear their dress again!)

Mena and Matt, your celebrations were such a joy to document, and it is so fun to look back on them now! I loved how you were not only intentional about spending time with your families, but also deliberate about serving them well throughout the day! Your love for each other is so apparent and we’re praying it continues to grow over the years! Congratulations again!

The Après la Pluie spring editorial was dreamed up as a response to the difficulties of the past few years. With this styled shoot, we wanted to turn away from the dark clouds and instead focus on the hope and optimism that comes after a storm. We used soft dusty blues to set the scene and infused pops of peaches, pinks, and yellows to recall the promise of new life and good cheer. The highlight of this editorial was the floral umbrella created by Sunny of Dawndust Florals. Not only was it an incredible feat of artistry and engineering, it was such an joy to photograph. It was also such a treat to have dress designer Aurélia Hoang on site during the shoot!

Delicate details, relaxed silhouettes, and dreamy textures rounded out this fine-art inspired shoot. And being able to photograph a newlywed couple for our models added such sincerity and sereneness to the day!

…the promise of new life and good cheer.

We absolutely loved working with all the vendors Behind the I Do recruited to be a part of this editorial, but especially so the ladies of Behind the I Do itself, Candy and Sally! They were kind enough to include us in some of the planning and design, and it gave us a deep appreciation for all the hard work they put in to make this spring editorial a success. Not only was this an incredible experience, but it was such a joy to see Après La Pluie featured here on Wedding Chicks!

We hope you enjoy some of our favourite moments from this editorial!

If there’s one thing more difficult than picking an outfit for yourself, it’s helping your man choose what to wear to an engagement session! One way to help our guys feel confident and ready to take photos is to make sure he looks and feels amazing! And while many of our grooms-to-be don’t want to steal the spotlight from their ladies, we want to ensure that our guys still look handsome, classic, and the perfect pair to our future brides!

Here are some of our top tips that will help ensure that your guy will come to the engagement session looking the best he possibly can!

1. Something Formal

A suit is one of the most flattering things a guy can wear! The structured shoulders emphasize the strength and broadness of your chest and the head to toe monochrome can make you look taller and leaner. It’s a classic and timeless way to look put-together that will never go out of style!

Novotel Hotel // Andrea & Michael

2. Something Neutral

Neutrals are universally flattering and timeless, and they ensure that everyone will look at how great you look and not at your outfit! You will be the star of the photos! Neutrals include black, white, grey, tan, navy, and every shade in between. There’s nothing as classic as a cool neutral!

Old Newmarket // Danielle & Rafi

3. Something Printed

Some of our grooms decide to show off their stylish side with a printed suit! They’re both fun and adventurous and we love getting insight into our groom’s personality. As long as the outfit doesn’t overwhelm you or your bride, we can’t wait to see what you come to the session with!

Financial District // Naomi & John

4. Something Layered

Layers are a great way to add interest and dimension to an outfit! Some people aren’t big on colour, but adding layers of textures can easily elevate your outfit and make you look like a million bucks!

R.C. Harris // Jen & Paul

5. Something Accessorized

We love seeing our grooms-to-be invested in their engagement session and in their outfit! A well-dressed man is so much fun to photograph! One of the ways our guys can show off their fashionable side is through incorporating high-end accessories. These can include watches, cufflinks, pocket squares, and even rings!

Toronto Islands // Jessica & Wesley

6. Something Matching

A study published in 2012, “Shoes as a source of first impressions“, claimed that one of the first things people notice about others is the shoes they wear. Shoes say a lot more than we expect! And what better message can they say than “We look great!” One rule to remember: while shoes and belts don’t have to match perfectly in tone, the same general colour is the best way to go. Brown with brown, and black with black!

Osgoode Hall // Danielle & Kevin

Nicole and Julian had a gorgeous downtown Toronto engagement that really shows off why I love my job and my city! Even in a place as urban as Toronto, there are still pockets of soft romance to be found, photographed, and memorialized for the decades to come! This balance between modern and charming is what makes Toronto such a unique place.

Two people so madly in love you can see it in every glance.

Nicole and Julian first found me through Nicole’s sister, Steph, whose maternity session I photographed last autumn. I absolutely loved working with Steph and her husband Alec, so I knew Nicole and Julian would be incredible as well. These two are so sweet and playful! The session quickly felt like a pseudo-date that showed off how obsessed with each other they are! It’s always such a special honour to see two people so madly in love you can see it in every glance.

Nicole and Julian’s engagement session had us exploring so many beautiful locations in Toronto. We traipsed all over the financial district, from the Novotel Hotel to the facade of the Dominion Public building. Even though it was mid-October, the sun was high and the wind warm. We even found some gorgeous spring-time florals to add a touch of whimsy to the session. With Toronto’s iconic settings as backdrops, this was a quintessential Canadian session that will forever remind Nicole and Julian of the city where they fell in love!

Nicole and Julian, thank you so much for trusting me to document this amazing step in your relationship! You guys are so full of love for each other; it was such a joy to photograph you! As you anticipate your wedding, I hope these photos will continually remind you of why you fell in love! Can’t wait to photograph you guys again in just a few short weeks!

Christine and Kevin’s wedding was full of intimate moments and laughter. Having had their engagement session just a short month earlier, we experienced rain, heat, sun, and wind between both days. Through it all Christine and Kevin were full of joy and excitement, displaying their love for each other in every look.

Having met because Kevin’s roommate was friends with one of Christine’s good school friends, their relationship has been filled with several canoe trips in Algonquin, a romantic fall hike at Dundas peak in Hamilton, and a proposal at one of the doors of St. James Cathedral. It was a location they had scouted as a potential proposal spot for a friend some weeks earlier. Christine, aware that a proposal was imminent was wearing dresses every day and waiting for when she could “officially” start wedding planning.

It was obvious Christine and Kevin loved each other deeply

Christine and Kevin’s Wycliffe College wedding ceremony was both traditional and moving. Christine made her entrance through a staircase in the back of the hall. Walking down the aisle with her parents and met at the front by her maid of honour and Kevin’s best man, Christine shared many glances and smiles with Kevin throughout the ceremony. Through their family formals and couple portraits, they continued to enjoy every minute. Ultimately, Christine and Kevin’s wedding day was one that kept me smiling throughout it all as it was so obvious they loved each other deeply.

Christine and Kevin, thank you for sharing your day with me. From our conversations beforehand to your engagement session to your wedding, I’ve loved getting to know you both better and I’m so excited to be sharing more sneak peeks from your day here! I can’t wait to share the rest! Congratulations again!!

Marianne and Andrew were one of the few couples we had this year who had originally planned to get married in 2021! Although they did have to postpone by a few months, they were able to have a beautiful day that was reminiscent of the full and typical weddings we used to shoot all the time. And we’re so happy for them!

Their mid-September wedding fulfilled all our fall fantasies. Marianne chose every detail carefully. From red hypericum berries in her bouquet to the burgundy and gold colour story, the day was both cozy and elegant. Just like their engagement session, Marianne and Andrew’s wedding was filled with movement, laughter, and tender in-between moments.

Seeing Marianne with her grandmother brought tears to my eyes.

Between her ceremony and reception, Marianne took time to visit her grandmother, with whom she shares a special relationship. You may know that family is incredibly important to me, and if any of my couples share that they’d like to make time for a special moment with family, I will 1000% encourage it. Seeing Marianne with her grandmother brought tears to my eyes, and it may be my favourite part of her wedding day (and many parts of her wedding were so special)!

Throughout the day, Marianne and Andrew chose to reveal a special part of their relationship: their mutual love of video games! From the groomsmen’s boutonnieres to the reception table decor, odes to some of their favourite games were spread out to give their guests a peek into their relationship.

Marianne and Andrew, thank you for entrusting your beautiful day to me. I loved every moment. From your details, to your time with friends and family, everything was so intentional. I hope these images help you relive it many times in the years to come. Congratulations!

After over a year, we’re sharing Cynthia and Terry’s wedding! This lovely couple got married last summer and celebrated their anniversary with a gorgeous session last month! After capturing their reception a few weeks ago, we’re finally ready to share their entire wedding experience!

Cynthia and Terry’s wedding ceremony last year took place at a friend’s home. The gorgeous historical home had enough land to accommodate social distancing restrictions, allowing their closest family and friends to attend. A sweet-as-honey first look, tender glances during the ceremony, and joyful husband and wife portraits rounded out this dewy August wedding!

Cynthia and Terry’s wedding celebration continued this year with a reception and more amazing portraits! While their ceremony last August was threatened with rain, this year they had to contend with wind. But this only added to the romance of the day and showed off Cynthia’s gown (check out the images below)! With a change in venue, Cynthia and Terry also re-oriented some details, infusing a mature and suave style to their day! This second day of celebration also enabled them to have a tea ceremony, a sit-down dinner, and long-awaited speeches from loved ones. Finally capturing and memorializing these special moments was such a joy!

Cynthia and Terry, getting to photograph you last year was amazing! Being to do it two more times since then has only added to our excitement for you guys! We hope you love these images and they are a constant reminder of your first sweet year of marriage! Let them keep your joy at the forefront of your memories even amidst all the unconventional adjustments your wedding celebration went through! Congratulations again!
