Cynthia and Terry got married last summer, when things were crazy and everything was still up in the air. They weren’t able to have an engagement session or a reception, but this year they are making up for it! This gorgeous anniversary may not be able to capture the excitement and anticipation of an engagement session, but there’s something so deeply intimate about capturing a newlywed couple one year into their marriage.

It was a quiet evening, with a golden sunset and the softest breeze coming off the lake. Cynthia and Terry’s choice of Princes’ Gate was perfect. It gave the entire session a stateliness that beautifully balanced off their warm and open personalities.

Cynthia and Terry ended up chatting until the café closed…

Cynthia and Terry’s first date was at a small, local café in Scarborough. They had never met before, so Terry organized a little game for them to get to know each other. They each wrote down questions to ask each other, put them in a jar, and took turns drawing the questions and answering them. Cynthia realized how much she appreciated the effort when the conversation began flowing naturally. There were no awkward moments even though they were practically strangers. They ended up chatting until the café closed and so they headed over to a nearby mall to grab a bite at the food court. Although it was a low-key, simple date, it was perfect. They had the right space and time to realize that there could be something more.

Cynthia and Terry, your anniversary session was so sweet to document! From your first date to the celebration of your first year of marriage, you guys have been so warm and in-love, and it made photographing you a breeze! Congratulations on your first anniversary and I can’t wait to see your relationship and family grow!

We were immediately excited when Stephanie reached out to us to do a Dundurn Castle maternity session and gender reveal! Along with marriage, welcoming children into the world is one of the most incredible events of one’s life. And what better place to celebrate than a real-life castle! Unfortunately, Stephanie’s husband, Alec, hadn’t been able to attend any of her ultrasounds or appointments due to COVID regulations. With this session, they wanted to do something special together that would help them create memories as a full family unit. And we were so happy to be able to contribute to this special time of their lives! In fact, within minutes of meeting them face-to-face, we felt we had known both Steph and Alec for far longer than we had.

Stephanie is a French immersion teacher, cultured and patient. We could sense her organization/planning skills over email as she shared her designs for the session. As detail-oriented photographers–and people in general–we were thrilled to connect with and get to know Stephanie and her vision. Her attention to detail and her amazing taste elevated this session and definitely made it one for the books! We know that her keen eye and passion for both beauty and organization will serve her little family so well!

May these photos serve as a welcome tribute to your pregnancy.

Alec is an engineer, steady and calm, personable and comfortable. During the session, he was so attentive and caring towards Stephanie, helping her manoeuvre on the muddy slopes and dirt paths. Over the years, we’ve found that in a couple, the guy is typically less enthusiastic about photos than the girl. But Alec was engaged the whole way through! (Though he did admit to not liking photos, and was more than ready to let Steph have a few solo portraits). We loved seeing how he was able to set aside his own hesitations, and instead participate and contribute, helping to make the session super enjoyable for everyone involved! This self-sacrificial attitude and dive-right-in attitude is so incredible to have as a dad!

Stephanie and Alec, thank you so much for trusting us to document this amazing time of your life! This season is so so precious and we hope that the sweet memories you make during these months stay with you forever. It was such a joy to connect with you; you guys were absolute rock-stars! We absolutely LOVED your Dundurn Castle maternity session, and hope you love these photos as much as we do. May they serve as a welcome tribute to your pregnancy, especially during this crazy year!

When Danielle reached out to us to do her Newmarket family session, we were ecstatic. Not only is her little family adorable, but her sister married our brother and we love having opportunities to serve those in our immediate communities. We love being able to offer tangible and lasting memories to those we care about. It’s more than photography, it’s about creating memories for us! We’ve done our brother’s engagement, our sister’s engagement, our sister’s wedding, and now we can add this one to the list!

Danielle and Rafi married in 2013 and now have two little ones. They initially lived in the Newmarket area for a while, before moving a little further away. Now, no matter where they go, they have a memory of the town where they started out.

Toddler boy enjoyed his cone a little too much, he decided to wear it.

We decided to take them a little off the beaten path when it comes to Main Street Newmarket. Sunday afternoons are pretty busy in the area, so for the second half of the shoot, we ducked into a little park area that allowed toddler boy a chance to run around and be himself. And of course, it had to end with ice cream at Bene Bene where toddler boy enjoyed his cone so much, he decided to wear it.

Danielle and Rafi, we had so much fun taking pictures of you guys! Family sessions with little kids can be difficult, but you guys handled it like pros. We love how you guys knew when to step back and let your little guy just be himself. These are the photos that you’re going to look back on and remember just how sweet and hilarious he is; kids are small for such a short time! We hope these photos bring you joy as you continue watching your little ones grow up!

We’re so excited to share this gorgeous Scotsdale Farm anniversary session, complete with a puppy!

We absolutely love building friendships with our brides and grooms, both before and after their wedding. We’ve gone out for brunches, hung out at events, and kept up over social media with many of our couples! But one of our favourite ways to keep in touch with our past brides and grooms is when they invite us to document new and exciting seasons of their lives.

Shauna and Garrett are one of those couples, and we had an amazing evening photographing their first anniversary. But this wasn’t a regular anniversary session: they brought along the newest addition to their family, sheltie puppy Finlay!

At Shauna and Garrett’s wedding last year, it was clear that these two were each other’s best friends. At their anniversary session, they were happy, comfortable, and they spoke to each other so fondly. Together, even in the couple hours we spent with them, they looked so in sync with how they handled their adorable little puppy. The combination of Shauna’s warmth and Garrett’s gentleness was so beautiful to see as they worked together to get their little guy wrangled and looking cute for photos!

…you wonder if you’ve known any other couple that fits together as well.

Shauna is a marketing and media manager and her desire for real human connection is so beautiful! It drips from her words and her smile. She would be that teacher in grade school that every student loved! Garrett is a former wrestler, and, when you find out, you’re both surprised and not surprised. Garrett is well-spoken and unpretentious. He moves and speaks with intentionality. He is reserved, but not quiet. Garrett complements Shauna’s social personality perfectly and you wonder if you’ve known any other couple that fits together as well. We saw glimpses of this at their wedding, but got a fuller effect at their anniversary session. And we’re so honoured to have been given a small peak into their lives as a couple!

Shauna and Garrett, we are so happy we got to spend time with you guys and celebrate your first anniversary! You were clearly over-the-moon happy at your wedding, but there was a depth to your joy this year that made us so excited for your relationship! We love how you deeply care for each other and how your love for your new family has spilled over onto a little puppy. He’s so lucky to have you guys as his paw-rents! We had such a blast taking these photos, and we’re so honoured to have documented this amazing milestone in your marriage. We hope you love these images and that they will always remind you of this sweet season of life. Congratulations on your first year!

I (Samantha) am officially in love with winter lifestyle sessions! My experience with Laken and Izak left me over the moon, and I finished editing their gallery in record time. Those who know me know I love being cozy, and I would probably use that word to describe this session. Having shot their engagement, I knew these guys were fun, adventurous and model-worthy. I legitimately could not narrow down this post any further. Tears may have been shed for the photos that didn’t make it.

In-Home Winter Lifestyle Session

Having made peppermint hot chocolate, Laken and Izak wrapped some of their Christmas gifts and finished off their winter lifestyle session with a walk outside (and a few minutes of making snow angels). I can’t think of a better way to celebrate their love for each other during their first year of marriage than to have an in-home lifestyle session. These types of sessions are particularly poignant because they display small, but beautiful life moments, doing something you love, with the people you love. These every-day memories are the ones you’ll carry with you your whole lif.e

I 100% plan on shooting more lifestyle sessions like this one, and so would love to meet people who want these kinds of photos of themselves! Veronica and I will bring some music over and we can spend a couple hours making memories that’ll last you a lifetime.
